"Hank" Edgar L. "Hank" Barr Jr., 86, of 610 Elizabeth St., Lebanon, died Monday, January 12, 2009, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Doris B. Wenzler Barr. He was born August 29, 1922, in Lebanon, a son of the late Edgar L. Barr Sr. and Cora Fake Barr. He was a retired employee of the Lebanon Steel Foundry, with 40 years of service. He was cofounder and active member since 1955 of the Rural Security Fire Company, where he served as president, trustee, fire chief, assistant fire chief and fire police. He was a life member of the Glenn Lebanon Fire Co., Rural Security Fire Co., Lebanon County Fireman's Association, Lebanon County Fire Chiefs, where he served as president. He was also a member of the Lebanon American Legion, and served in the U.S. Army from December 1942 to December 1945 with the 924th Field Artillery Battalion, Company "C" of the 99th Division. He is survived by children Barbara L., wife of Ronald S. Boyer Sr. of Lebanon, Eleanor V., wife of the late Larry Griffiths of Lebanon, Patrick Larry, husband of Jill Barr of Lebanon; grandchildren Ronald Boyer Jr., James Boyer, Michael Boyer, Angela Ettore, Rachel Griffiths, Travis Barr, Hillary Brennan and Courtney Ackerman; nine greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Russell Barr, Harold Barr and Marlin Barr; sisters Mildred Henry, Verna Light and Minerva Weitzel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, Fifth and Cumberland streets, Lebanon. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Rural Security Fire Co., 1301 N. Seventh St., Lebanon, PA 17046.
