Ebersole, age 74 of 985 Daffodil Drive, Lebanon died Saturday, May 30, 2009 in his residence. He was the husband of Ruth Longenecker Ebersole. He was born on July 13, 1934 in Hershey to Harry M. & Bernice Myers Ebersole. He retired in 1993 after 40 years from the Cedar Crest High School where he was a Business teacher. He started the Wrestling program at Cedar Crest and was the head coach for 19 years, retiring in 1991. He was a graduate of Hershey High School. He completed 2 years at the Hershey Jr. College and then received his B.S. from Elizabethtown College & then completed his Masters in Business Education at Temple University. He is a member of the Lebanon Church of the Brethren, the Heritage Foundation, the Elizabethtown College Alumni Association, the Blue Jay Athletic Association at Elizabethtown College & the LEBCO & PA State PASR. He & several others started the wrestling program for Elizabethtown College. He enjoyed reading, guitar, traveling, hiking, bicycling, camping, boating, water skiing, golfing & he was a dedicated Penn State fan. Surviving in addition to his loving wife Ruth are his sons, James G. husband of Kari Ebersole, Bethlehem; Steven W. husband of Carol Ebersole, Cranford, NJ; Michael J. husband of Gabriella Ebersole, Boulder, CO; his 5 grandchildren Christopher Robert Ebersole (13), Sara Marie Ebersole (8), Jami Rose Ebersole (8), Jason Steven Ebersole (4), Stephen Thomas Ebersole (4); a Step Brother Richard Wampler, Satsuma, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Step Mother Effie Wampler Ebersole. Relatives & friends are invited for a time of viewing on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 6:30-8:00 PM at the Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. A time for viewing will be on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 9:30-11:00 AM at the funeral home followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM with Lay ministers Bud Berge & Jenean Speck officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Gerald Ebersole Wrestling Scholarship Memorial, c/o James Ebersole 401 Prospect Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
