Nadia K. Garman, 62, of 13 Mine Road (Cariadlawn), Lebanon, Pa., passed away on Saturday, 31 January 2009, in the Transitional Care Unit of the Hyman Caplan Pavilion. Born on 1 February 1946 in Oberdiessen, Germany, she was the daughter of Russian parents Ewdokija (Prokopenko) Kochergin, and the late Stefan Kochergin. She was the wife of Ronald J. Garman. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on 2 February 2009. She entered the United States through Ellis Island in 1949, and became a naturalized citizen in 1964. She was a 1964 graduate of Lebanon High School, and received a bachelor's degree in education (Russian) from Millersville University in 1968, and a master's degree in psychology from Millersville University in 1980. She was also a 2001 graduate of The Barbara Brennan School of Healing. She taught Russian at Lebanon Valley College for a time, and was program director in the early 1980s for Women in Crisis in Hershey, Pa. She operated a private psychotherapy practice in Lebanon from 1983 until 2008. In 1994, she was chosen as The Outstanding Woman of the Year by the AnnvilleCleona Women of Today. She was past president of the boards of Lebanon Family Health Services and The Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Lebanon County. She also served on the board of the Pennsylvania Family Health Council. She was a member of the Arnold Sports Center at Lebanon Valley College, where (and at other locations) she very enthusiastically and very competently played tennis regularly. Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by one son, Matthew, and his wife, Tricia; and two grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas, all of Lebanon; a cousin, Alex Ananiew (his son, Nikolai, from a previous marriage), and his wife, Peggy of Florida; and other relatives in Russia and throughout the world. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Lebanon Family Health Services Inc., 615 Cumberland Street, Lebanon, Pa. A memorial service will be held at the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 North Chestnut Street, Palmyra, on Saturday, 7 February 2009, at 3:30 p.m. Cremation arrangements were handled by the Taylor Ruffner Funeral Home Inc., 712 Chestnut Street, Lebanon, PA 17042.
