Ditzler CATONSVILLE, MD Gladys Marie Ditzler, 93, formerly of Green Point, Pa., died on Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Charlestown Retirement Community, where she resided for the past 10 years. Born in Green Point, Gladys was the daughter of the late Marshall and Lillie (Miller) Ditzler. She was preceded in death by brother, Marshall Ditzler, MD; and four sisters, Florence, Ruth, Esther (wife of Edward L. Jones, MD), and Margaret (wife of Paul A. Behney). She was a graduate of Lebanon High School, and later graduated from Lancaster General Hospital's Nursing School in 1939. Gladys worked as a private duty nurse until enlisting in the United States Navy during WWII. She was stationed on the hospital ship "Consolation" and ended her service in Okinawa in 1946. As a civilian, she worked for the Department of Health in Maryland, and was a private practice nurse for her brother, Dr. Marshall Ditzler in York, until his death in 1962. Later employment included working in Maryland for the Veteran's Hospital and Glen Dale Hospital, where she was a nursing supervisor until age 70. Gladys resided in Pasadena, Md., for over 32 years before moving to the retirement home. She is survived by her nieces, Jean Jones of Rockville, Md., and Letty Jane (Behney), wife of Kenneth C. Farmer of Valley Forge; great- niece, Barbara Ann (Schantz), wife of Thomas J. Murphy; and great-great- nephews, Sean, Michael, and Patrick, all of Kimberton. A memorial service will be held at Sattazahn's Lutheran Church, 185 Green Point Road, Jonestown, on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Sattazahn's Lutheran Church in care of 21 Ditzler Lane, Jonestown, PA 17038.
