Flowers, 81, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of Darline Jane Mellman Flowers, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June 10th. Born in Hershey, he was the son of the late John W. and Salome M. Bentz Flowers. John had worked as a compositor for Fulton Press for 30 years until his retirement in1995. In years past he had coached Little League Baseball, was involved in Boy Scouts, enjoyed golfing, was a big Boston Red Sox fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John also enjoyed hunting, particularly with his sons and grandsons. He was a 1947 graduate of Hershey High School, and, with his wife, attended the 49ers Breakfast Club. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his two sons, Edward M. married to Joann Flowers of Penryn, and Robert J. married to Cathy Flowers of Dagsboro, Del.; his daughter, Joni L. married to Arthur Lavoie of Lititz; his eight grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and his two sisters, Phyllis married to Henry Zuttermeister of Kendalville, Ind., and Ilene S. married to Joseph Gosik of Hershey. He was preceded in death by his sons, Joseph and David Flowers; his grandsons, Michael Flowers and Jeremy Lavoie; and his brother, Edwin C. Flowers. Friends will be received on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, with the Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Alger will officiate. Interment will be private.In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in John's memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
