M. shabodeho@aol.com February 22, 2011, 5:56 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on February 22, 2011 Helen Callahan LEBANON Helen Callahan, 82, formerly of Rochester, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, in Good Samaritan Health Systems of Lebanon. Born April 19, 1928, in Ambridge, a daughter of the late Alex and Fanny Halo Walgus, she was a former employee with the Blind Association of Uniontown and Beaver Falls. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rochester, and was a graduate of the Pittsburgh School for the Blind in 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald J. Callahan in 2000; four guide dogs, Irene, Lonnie, Nella and Tracker; four brothers, Mike, John, Joseph, and Alex Walgus; and two sisters, Anna Schatz and Mary Preslac. Surviving are a daughter and son- in-law, Elizabeth Christine (Richard) and Thomas Refi, Lebanon; three grandsons, Timothy Refi, Lebanon, Patrick and Daniel Refi, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Ruby Romesburg, Uniontown, and Dorothy Waslo, Allison Park; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the William Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., 349 Adams St., Rochester. Service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rochester, with her pastor, the Rev. Gregory S. Clagg, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Daugherty Township.
