Lawrence Emanuel Houck, 91, was born on March 3, 1920 and passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Pinnacle Community General Hospital, Harrisburg. He was a modest, respected and caring man of integrity who was known for "his unique wit and one-liners." He graduated from the former Lower Paxton HS in 1938 and Thompson Business School in 1945. He started in business as Houck & Cassatt Masonry Contractors in 1946 and founded Houck & Co., Inc. in 1960. He retired in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army 166th Anti-aircraft Group in WWII, mostly in the South Pacific. He enjoyed his family, many friends and pets; especially "Sammy." He was a great golfer who shot "2" hole-in-one's in one week, at the age of 84. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and enjoyed all sports; especially auto racing, Central Dauphin HS football & basketball, The Phillies, Penn State and the Hershey Bears. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning and picking cherries; and time at his Perry County farm. He loved to travel to golf destinations throughout the country. He was a life member of the West Hanover Twp. Fire Co. and Mt. Laurel Church of God, along with numerous community and business groups. He is survived by his sister, Fay Kreiser of Lancaster; daughter Betty Jane and husband Joe Kenny of East Hanover Twp.; sons, Gary and wife Patti Houck of West Hanover Twp. and Tim and wife Maryanne Houck of Lower Paxton Twp; and son-in-law, Harry Wildasin of Palmyra; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, the former Betty Jane Koons; their daughter, Star Etta; son, Lawrence E. Houck II, who was killed in Viet Nam in 1969; daughter-in-law, Elaine Wildasin; grandsons, Gary L. Houck, Jr. and Steve Wildasin; brothers, Henry, John and Luther; and sisters, Annie Smith, Verna Runkle, Helen Quinter-Williams and Millie Patrick. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Laurel Church of God. Viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Linglestown and also from 10 to 11 a.m. at church on Friday. Interment will be in Mt.
