Putt, 89, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, in Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian St., Pottsville. Born on March 24, 1922, in Millcreek Twp. Pa., he was a son of the late John W. and Sara Katzman Putt. George was a Tec5 in the Army during WWII having served with the Cannon Company, 169th Inf. Reg. 43rd Inf. Div. in New Guinea, Luzon, Go 33 & 40 WD 45. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He was a Life member of the Pine Grove V.F.W. Post 3432, the Pine Grove American Legion Post #374. He was also a member of the Fredericksburg American Legion. George worked as a Laborer for Met Ed and as a bartender for various establishments. He was a life member of the H.H. & L. Fire Co., #1, Pine Grove, and a member of the Bethel Fire Co., the Mt. Etna Fire Co., Frystown Fire Co., and the Suedburg Fire Company. Preceding him in death were his companion of 46 years, Margaret Rehrer on April 23, 2010, one son, John Putt, two brothers, Raymond, Ralph and a sister, Winefred. Surviving are Margaret's daughter Karlene Hughes, grandson Michael and wife, Renee Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Jared Hughes and Kelsey Hughes; one grandson, Michael Putt of Newmanstown; one brother, John Putt of Lebanon and one sister, Arlene Eldins of San Diego, California. Services will be held at H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Friday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Richard W. Schoenleber officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, Spring Twp.
