Zion, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth Gingrich Shay, who died in 2008. Born in Lebanon, on December 15, 1917, he was the son of the late Fred R. and Rachel Hughes Shay. He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer at SHAY-D- ACRES Farm, Mt. Zion, and also worked as a State Inspector of Farm's for Wengert's Dairy, Lebanon, for many years. Earl was a graduate of Lebanon High School, an over 50 year member of Mt. Olivet Lodge #704 F. &A.M., Lebanon, the last surviving founder of the Mt. Zion Fire Company, a member of the PA State Inspector's Association where he was honored as "State Inspector of the Year", and enjoyed attending the New Holland Stables Horse Auctions. Surviving are a son, Patrick F., husband of Kathie Shay of Arnold, Md.; two daughters, Susan E., wife of Edward Robb of Lebanon, and Linda M., wife of Richard Umberger of Elizabethtown; a sister, Mildred Walker of Lebanon; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Harry, and Donald Shay. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lebanon County, in Earl's memory.
