Winter PALMYRA Joseph Andrew Winter, 77, a resident of Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in Palmyra, passed away February 15, 2011. He was the husband of Lee (Wolfe) Winter, to whom he was married for 54 years. Born in Lebanon on July 29, 1933, Joe was the son of the late Peter and Helen (Salay) Winter. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1951 and Lebanon Business College in 1955. Joe was employed for 34 years at Cleaver Brooks Co. in Lebanon as Manager of the Quality Assurance Dept. He also was with the Dept. of Energy Technology Center in Morgantown, W.Va. After retirement he worked at Cedar Crest as a teacher's aide. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division of the Screaming Eagles. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Palmyra, Rexmont Fire Hall, Campbelltown American Legion and former member of the Quentin Riding Club-Mt. Trail Riders and C.B. Sportsman Club. Hobbies he enjoyed were his horse "Toby", hunting, having parties and his beach house in New Jersey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Theresa and friend, Lisa Lunceford of El Paso, Texas, Steven and wife Michelle S. of Hershey, Douglas and wife, Michelle K. of Palmyra, and Lauren and husband, Col. Stephen Sklenka, of Carlsbad, Calif.; four granddaughters, Kaitlin, Riley and Megan Winter, and Olivia Paige Sklenka, who he loved to tease and looked forward to their visits; three brothers, Richard of Myerstown, Robert of Palmyra, and James of Lebanon; one sister, Sister Agnes Marie Winter of Bluffton, S.C. He was preceded in death by daughter. Cynthia Lee (Cindee) Winter, and an infant brother. Frankie. Funeral Mass Monday at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra. Viewing hours Sunday evening from 6 to 8 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon, and Monday morning from 10 to 11 at the church. Interment Wednesday at 2 p.m. on Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
