M. shabodeho@aol.com February 14, 2012, 11:39 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on February 8, 2012 Mary Jane Thompson Hiestand LANCASTER Mary Jane Thompson Hiestand, 91, formerly of Manheim, and Annville, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Brethren Village Lancaster. Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Esther Gass VanWinkle. Mary Jane retired from the Lebanon County Earned Income Tax Office; previously she was employed as a secretary for Lebanon Valley College, Annville. An accomplished pianist, Mary Jane taught piano privately for many years. Mary Jane was the wife of the late J. Loverne Hiestand who died in March of 2001; her first husband was the late Rev. Sterling D. Thompson who died in February of 1964. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim, where she volunteered her time playing piano and organ at the church. Previously she was a very active and faithful member of Zion Evangelical Congregational Church in Annville where she was a lay delegate to the church's national conference, served on the official board of the church, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and helped with her husband's ministry. Mary Jane was a member of the Lititz Springs Chapter # 499 Order of the Eastern Star. Her interests included: needle craft, crocheting, jig-saw puzzles, flower gardening and playing bingo. Surviving is a son, David J. Thompson of Annville; a daughter, Diane E. wife of Lee J. Lamkin of Newark, Del.; two stepsons, Roger C. husband of Marie Hiestand of Florence, Ariz., Leslie L. husband of Sandra J. Hiestand of Manheim; two grandchildren, Philip A. Bush, Jennifer M. Fisher; two step grandsons; three great-grandchildren, Sterling, Alyssa, and Sayde; and three step great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death is a grandson, Todd Bush; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Light Thompson. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church 48 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with additional viewing time on Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
