M shabodeho@aol.com September 16, 2012, 11:04 am Published in Lebanon Daily News on September 5, 2012 RICHLAND Harry Eckert Pennypacker, 87, passed away on September 3, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, LebanoN. Born in Lebanon on June 12, 1925, Harry was the son of the late Harry B. and Emily V. (Eckert) PennypackeR. At the age of 17, Harry enlisted in the Navy. He served from 1942-1946 in the Atlantic Theater as a Combat Air Crewman aboard the aircraft carriers the U.S.S. San Jancinto CVL30 and the U.S.S Croatan CVE25. Harry continued to pursue his love of flying after the Navy by building and piloting his own airplanes over the next 40 years. He was a long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and flew out of Farmer's Pride Airport in Fredericksburg. The day after Harry was mustered out of the Navy he began work at the Lebanon Bethlehem Steel Plant as a laborer. Forty years later, Harry retired as foreman of the Hot Nut and Rod Shop. Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends from the Richland Gun Shop and served as Scout Master for Troop 18 in Richland. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella and his daughter, Suzanne (Pennypacker) Briner. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Lucetta (Mountz) Pennypacker; and his second wife of 12 years, Marian (Weatherholtz) Pennypacker. Harry is survived by a loving son, Harry Byron and his wife, Sally of Schaefferstown. To his adoring grandchildren and great- grandchildren he was known as 'Boppa'. Audrey (Briner) Bear of New Bloomfield, Emily (Pennypacker) Gouwens of Pittsburgh, Abigail (Pennypacker) Snee of Myerstown, Molly (Pennypacker) Mullinix of Liberty, Texas, Helen Pennypacker of Schaefferstown; and five great-grandchildren, Caden and Landon Mullinix, Grace and Harrison Gouwens and Adelyn Snee. The sixth great-grandchild, Baby Snee is due to arrive any day. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Grace U.C.C. Church, 22 Church Rd., Richland. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Harry Pennypacker Memorial Fund at Grace U.C.C. Church in Richland, which supports the Bible School and Music Programs.
