    MYERSTOWN Wayne I. Schmitt, Sr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. 
    Born in Henry, Ill., on February 18, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter 
    and Mildred Schmitt. He graduated from Mid-County High School in Varna, Ill., 
    in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. He was employed by Bell 
    Telephone for 32 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the 
    Doylestown Lodge 245 FA&M, the Pioneers of Bell Telephone and the Lions Club. 
    He is survived by two brothers, Donald Schmitt, of Lacon, Ill., and Eldon 
    McLaughlin of Vista, Calif.; one son, Wayne I. Schmitt Jr. and his wife, Lori; 
    and two grandchildren, Amanda and Michael, all of Dudley, Mass. The family will 
    receive friends between 10 and 11 a.m. at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington 
    Ave., Myerstown, on Saturday, July 21, 2012, to be followed by a private 
    service for family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be 
    made to the Alzheimer's Association.
