M shabodeho@aol.com September 23, 2012, 8:37 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on September 22, 2012 PALMYRA Helen Elizabeth (Gerber) Breaux Umberger, 91, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2012, in The Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. She was born Wednesday, November 24, 1920, in Palmyra to the late James R. and Eldora (Collingwood) Gerber, and was the stepdaughter of the late Blanche (King) Gerber. She graduated from Palmyra Sr. High School in 1938, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where was an aviation metal smith from 1943 to 1944, stationed at Beeville, Texas. She worked for 35 years at the Hershey Chocolate Corp., retiring from the wrapping room in 1982. She was devoted to God and her family. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, playing cards, and Parcheesi. She was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church of Palmyra, taught Sunday school for many years, and sang in the choir. She also enjoyed visiting hospitals and nursing homes. She is survived by a daughter, Sherrie Walker and husband, Norman "Buzz" of Waynesboro; daughter-in-law, Nona Breaux; three grandchildren, Chris Walker, LeeAnn Loukopoulos, and Danielle Breaux; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Walker, Theodora Loukopoulos, and Sophia Loukopoulos; two brothers, George A. Gerber and James R. Gerber, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Alfred Breaux, Jr.; eight sisters, Mary Yorty, Sara Landis, Martha Meyers, Dorothy Brake, Esther Herniesey, Joan Baker, and two sisters in infancy; a brother, Kenneth A. Gerber; a stepbrother, Robert "Bob" King; two nephews; and two nieces. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, at 2 p.m. at Palmyra First E.C. Church, W. Main and College Sts., Palmyra PA 17078 with the Rev. Jan R. Fryer officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing at the church from 1 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to her church. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
