Jeffersonian Republican. (Stroudsburg, Pa.) 1853-1911: November 05, 1874
At his residence in Stroudsburg, on the 31st ult., Hon. James H. Walton, aged 54
years, 4 months and 19 days. Mr. Walton was, for a long time, a prominent and
honored citizen of this place. In 1854 he was elected State Senator, which office he
held three years. After the election of Mr. Buchanan to the Presidency, Mr. Walton
was appointed in 1857 Treasurer of the mint at Philadelphia, which position he
acceptably filled until 1861, when he was superseded by an appointee under Mr.
Lincoln's administration. After this, Mr. W. entered into a co-partnership in the
broker business with a gentleman by the name of Yost...
