MAY 1948 Stores Will Close On Monday Morning For Soldier Burial Shenandoah stores will be closed Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 o'clock during the funeral services for Pvt. John J. McHugh. Chief Burgess Andrew Baraniak, in a proclamation issued today, called for the business recess as a tribute to the memory of a local World War II hero. Pvt. McHugh was killed in action on January 7, 1945, in France. Solemn Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St. George's Church at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be in the Annunciation Cemetery. Representatives of the various local service posts will attend the funeral in a body and conduct military serviqes at the cemetery. The body of Pvt. McHugh was returned from abroad on the U. S. Army Transport Lawrence Victory. The funeral will take place from the residence at 1211 West Centre street. Burgess Baraniak urged residents to display the American flag during the services on Monday morning. "We should show every respect for those who made the supreme sacrifice to safeguard our Democracy," he said. "He gave us his life, we should not hesitate to give his memory one hour."
