* Corporal in Captain F. B. Ling's Co. G 54th  Regiment Pa. Infantry commanded 
by Colonel J. Campbell 
* Enrolled Oct. 20, 1861 at age 32 to serve 3 years or the duration 
* Mustered in Jan. 18, 1862 in Harrisburg, Pa 
* Discharged Jan. 17, 1865 at Harrisburg, Pa. by reason of expiration of term of 
service 
* Discharged by General Order Mar. 3, 1865 to date from expiration of term 
(Served Oct. 20, 1861 - July 7, 1865 - 44 month 28 days) 
* Disability - Shot through both legs ( hips ) at Winchester, Va. 
* Simon was a brother of Jehu, Joel and William Bauman 
* height - 5' 10"; Hair - Black; Complexion - Dark; Eyes - Dark 
* Occupation at enrollment - Farmer
