Baird, 79, of 326 Susquehanna St., Boswell, died July 1, 1997, at Somerset Hospital. Born July 4, 1917, in Kimmelton. Son of George R. and Marie (Griffith) Baird. Preceded in death by parents; brothers George, Donald and James; sister Lucille Galvin; and son-in-law David Hillegas. Survived by wife, the former Caroline Policicchio; daughters: Garnet Hillegas, Stoystown RD; Karen (Calisti), wife of Robert Ryan, Jennerstown; Teresa (Calisti), wife of John Matsko III, Boswell; and son Bruno Calisti, USN, and wife Delores, Oceanside, Calif. Also survived by grandchildren: Jonathan, Jill and Jennifer Hillegas; Shanna and Kristen Ryan; John and Jessica Matsko; great-grandson Nicholas Dill and special nephew, Dougie Baird. Brother of John "Jack" and wife Ophelia, Corpus Christi, Texas; Ronald "Cubby," Boswell; and Elizabeth "Rissie," wife of Milton "Jack" Walker, Somerset. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish, Goldenaires of St. Joseph's Church, 55 Speeders of St. Peter's Church, U.S.W.A., S.O.A.R., Greater Johnstown Retired Men's Club, Boswell Post 461, American Legion; Somerset County Old Timer's Baseball Association, AARP, and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Air Force veteran of World War 11. Retired employee of the former Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. Observed 27th wedding anniversary Sept. 25, 1996. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where wake service will he held at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at noon Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, Boswell, the Rev. Father Blase Wegierski OFM Conv., celebrant. Interment, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jenner Cross Roads.
