Death was due to a heart attack. During the past several years Mr. Beal had not been in good health, but succeeded recently in having recovered from his latest attack, was able to take short walks around town, and his friends anticipated his complete recovery, but on Thursday of last week there came a sudden turn for the worse, resulting in death. Mr. Beal was a son of Andrew O. and Barbara (Yutzy) Beal, who for many years resided in Sand Patch, where the elder Mr. Beal was engaged in mercantile pursuits, and also served as postmaster for several terms. Joseph, when he became old enough, secured employment in the service of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad. For a period of 37 years before his retirement, about two years ago on account of his physical condition, he served as car inspector in the Sand Patch-Glencoe sector, and was quite competent and successful in his position. He was united in marriage with Miss Elda Albright, a native of Larimer Township, and to this union seven children were born, six of whom, with the widow, survive, as follows: Earl and Richard Beal and Mrs. Anna Snyder, of Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Mable Danver, of Beaver; Mrs. Julia Lapham, of Washington, Pa., Elwood Beal, of York. Twelve grandchildren, and one brother and five sisters also survive - Charles Beal, Pittsburgh; Mrs. George H. Benford, Mrs. C. Howard Shockey and Miss Lydia Beal, Meyersdale; Mrs. John H. Bittner, Sand Patch, and Miss Gertrude Beal, Frostburg, Md. A daughter, Lulu Margaret, preceded her father in death 40 years ago. Funeral services were conducted at the Beal home on North Street Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Rev. DeWitt L. Miller, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, assisted by Rev. R. M. Dunkleberger, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, under the direction of W. C. Price & Son, Meyersdale morticians. Meyersdale Republican, July 30, 1942
