MARTHA BERKEY

  Mrs. Martha (Lane) Berkey, 85, a former resident of Berlin, died on Friday, 
Dec. 8, at her home in Pittsburgh after an extended illness.  A daughter of 
Jacob and Mary (Hubbard) Lane, she was born in Berlin.  In addition to her 
husband, Jacob M. Berkey, she leaves two daughters, Miss Hilda Berkey and Mrs. 
Archibald Nance, both of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Barron, of Los 
Angeles, Cal., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
  Friends were received at the Berkey home in Pittsburgh until 3 o'clock Sunday 
afternoon when the remains were removed to the Lane homestead at 222 Main St., 
Berlin.  Funeral services were conducted there at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon.  
Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & 
Son, Berlin morticians.
  The bereaved husband was former principal of the Berlin schools, 
superintendent of schools of Somerset County and for many years a prominent 
supervising principal of schools in Pittsburgh.
