Her death was caused by meningitis, following a surgical operation in the Garfield Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C., several weeks ago. Her condition was serious most of the time following the surgery, although there were intervals when hope for her recovery was entertained. Wednesday of last week her brother, Dr. Alexander Solosko of Salisbury, had her brought from Washington to Meyersdale, where he could give her all his personal attention that was possible, and everything that was humanly possible was done to save her life, but to no avail. The Bernhard family located in Salisbury about three years ago, where Mrs. Bernhard opened an office as a chiropodist, in the residence property which they purchased at that time, and since resided in Salisbury. Mrs. Bernhard served her home community well in her profession; but also spent a portion of her time in Louisiana, where her husband was employed most of the time, by the federal government, as a civil engineer. She was a native of Russia and was born Dec. 22, 1903, at Latvia, in that country. She was a daughter of Level and Freda Daragov Solosko. She is survived by her husband, John Bernhard, a native of Holland, and one child Alexander Bernhard, not yet of school age. She is also survived by five sisters and four brothers, all located in or near New York City, except her brother, Alexander, a well-known physician and surgeon of Salisbury. Mrs. Bernhard's funeral was private, with no one in attendance but a few immediate relatives. Interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery, at 9 a.m., Tuesday, under the direction of Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician. Meyersdale Republican, August 6, 1942
