BROOKE Dr. Milton Moffett Brooke, 91, of Confluence, died Aug. 9, 1972, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born in Uniontown, Dec. 27, 1880, a son of the late Francis and Mary (McCormick) Brooke. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1900 and from dental school in 1903. He studied voice in Vienna, Austria, for three and a half years and in New York City for four years. However, a bout with tuberculosis curtailed his hopes for an operatic career and he went to Addison to recuperate. He served in World War I as YMCA secretary in France with Headquarters Company, 44th Division. In 1920 he moved to Confluence and married the former Esther Black. He later served as postmaster of Confluence for 15 years, retiring at 71 years of age. He organized the Somerset County Postal Employees and was a charter member and past president of the Confluence Lions Club. He was a member of Meyersdale Lodge, F&AM; Lodge of Perfection of Uniontown; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh; was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, served on the Confluence school board and town council, belonged to numerous dental organizations and Confluence Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Eleanor Wasielewski, Bel Air, Md.; two grandchildren, Theodore and Janine Wasielewski; also a sister, Mrs. Robert Jeffrey, Uniontown. Funeral service was held Friday afternoon in Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, with Rev. John R. Hickson officiating. Interment in Addison Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, August 17, 1972 [B2794]
