Born, July 28, 1915 in Cherry Valley, a son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Timko) Cone. Preceded in death by brothers Frank and Alex Cone and sister Irene Cone Guy. Mr. Cone attended the Indian Lake Christian Center in Central City. He attended the former South Brownsville High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II. A member of the Samuel S. Crouse American Legion Post 181 and the V.F.W. Post 554, both of Somerset. A life member of the D.A.V., the C.W.M. McCleary Chapter #78, Pittsburgh, and the F.O.E. Edgewood Aerie 1801 of Somerset. Prior to the service, he worked for a steel mill in Leechburg and he also served as a postal clerk in West Brownsville. He later sold industrial liability insurance in the Somerset area for several years. He enjoyed playing golf and he was a semi-pro baseball player in the Brownsville area. He is survived by sisters, Betty Gramata and Ann Hulsman, both of Chambersburg, Evelyn R. Cone, Fayetteville, brother Elmer Cone, Somerset and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Confer Funeral Home, 515 Front St., Brownsville on Thursday Aug. 20, 1998 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Services will then be held with his pastor, Rev. Tim Burgan, officiating. Burial will follow in Howe Cemetery, Washington County. Full military rights will be accorded by the John F. Kennedy Memorial American Legion Post 377, California, Pa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contribution may be made to Indian Lake Christian Center, Indian Road, Central City, Pa 15926. Daily American, August 19, 1998 [C0798]
