Her husband James W. Crawford Sr. died earlier this year. Born in Oxford, Mrs. Crawford was a daughter of Nelson N. and Mary (Lukel) Cupp. In Somerset where her father was a partner in the Cupp stores that later became the American Stores, and now Acme, she graduated from Somerset High School in 1926. She had traveled widely over the years and was in Tsingtao, China when the Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor. Interned for several months, she was later allowed to return to the U.S. Survivors include her husband's son, James W. Crawford Jr., a member of the North Carolina Legislature. A niece and a very dear friend is Mary (Livengood) Bilenkas of Chandler, Ariz. She was predeceased by a sister, Martha (Cupp) Livengood, wife of the late William S. Livengood. Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church. Burial was in Oxford. Daily American, November 3, 2000 [C1123]
