    John F. Dence, 79, of Somerset, died Oct 16, 1999, in Ashland, Pa., son
  of the late John and Eunice Dence.  Preceded in death by daughter, Susan
  Patricia, son, John Charles, and a sister.  Survived and sadly missed by
  his devoted wife of 38 years, Essie.  Also survived by daughters, Ann Dence
  and Mary Paolantonia; grandchildren, Megan and Frank; sister, Jean Newman,
  and various nieces and nephews.  He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of
  WWII, member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW.  Attended
  St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Somerset.  A memorial mass will be held
  at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Peter's church.  In lieu of flowers, donations
  may be made to the American Heart Association.
