(Ryan) Dewey, 20, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Emerick, Glencoe, died April 4, in Vietnam while on a jungle trainiing exercise, when hit by hostile automatic weapons fire. A member of E Troop, 17th Cavalry, Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Dewey enlisted in the service April 21, 1966 and had been in Vietnam since Nov. 17, 1966. Born in Petersburg, W.Va., Sept. 24, 1946, he graduated from Berlin-Brothersvalley high school in May, 1964, and had filled a work mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), of which he was a member, from August 1964 to April 6, 1966. "Jimmy", as he was known by his friends and family, had lived with his uncle and aunt in Glencoe since August 1962. Funeral service was held Thursday, April 13, in Franklin, W.Va., with interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery there. Meyersdale Republican, April 20, 1967 [D0505]
