DIAL Premature Blast Victims Albert J. Dial's Injuries Proved Fatal - Fred Younkin May Lose Sight of Both Eyes As briefly stated in last week's Republican, Albert J. Dial, aged 45, of Ursina, was fatally injured, and Fred Younkin, section foreman of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, was severely injured in a pre-mature explosion of dynamite at the west end of Benford Tunnel, on the low grade line of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, a few miles east of Confluence. The accident happened at 8:50 a.m. last Thursday. Younkin and Dial were blasting rock which had slid near the track. The exact cause of the mishap is unknown. The injured men were brought to the Frantz Hospital, Confluence, where Dial passed away Thursday afternoon. Younkin, aged 45, suffered numerous cuts and bruises around the head and body, and will possibly lose the sight of one or both eyes. He was removed to the Cottage State Hospital, Connellsville, on Saturday, where he is under the care of an eye specialist. Albert J. Dial was born at Ursina on March 20th, 1887, a son of the late John W. and Margaret Dial. He was aged 45 years, 2 months and 1 day. Mr. Dial was for a number of years a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School of Ursina, a member of Ursina Lodge, No. 806, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a member of the Order of Independent Americans, at Ursina, and also a member of the Order of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, at Connellsville. He was a veteran of the World War, with a record of service both in this country and abroad. He was a sincere Christian, and was for many years the support of three sisters to whom he showed every kindness and consideration. His surviving sisters are Clara, Cornelia and Ida Dial, all of Ursina. One brother, Addison Dial, of Isabel, also survives. One brother, Harry Dial, died 13 years ago. Funeral services were held in the family home, Ursina, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. L. Morgan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating. The pallbearers were members of the Ursina Lodge, I.O.O.F. - Orville Maust, John Zimmerman, John King, Harry Wills, S. B. Alcott and Milton Phillippi. Services at the grave were conducted by Harry Lichty Post, American Legion, and by Ursina Lodge, I.O.O.F. Interment in the Ursina Cemetery. Charles B. Humbert was the funeral director in charge.
