Her body was brought to Confluence by her grandson, Hayes Swan. The funeral service was held in the Humbert Funeral Home, on Feb. 22, followed by burial in the Addison Cemetery. The funeral rites were conducted by Rev. Jerome Guss, pastor of the Confluence Lutheran Church, of which she was a faithful member during her entire lifetime. Martha Welfley was the daughter of Israel and Elizabeth Welfley, pioneer residents of Confluence. She was born Feb. 20, 1853. Had she lived two more days she would have been 93 years old. In her youth she attended the Cross Roads school near the village of Harnedsville, before there was a school house in Confluence. At the age of 16 she married Hiram Frantz with whom she lived happily on the fine Frantz farm adjoining the town of Confluence, for more than half a century. Her husband preceded her in death 21 years ago. During the last 14 years she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Earle Beggs in St. Petersburg, Florida, and traveled from there to Confluence every spring to spend the summer with her relatives and friends still living in her old home town. She had a very clear mind and her eye sight and health remained good in her old age, so that she was able to enjoy life to the end. Mrs. Frantz was a very devoted wife and mother and a very good and kind neighbor and friend and was liked and respected by all who knew her. Surviving her is one sister, Mrs. Carrie Tissue, of Confluence and Florida, and two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Beggs with whom she made her last home, and Mrs. Harvey Tissue, of Bell, California. Her two sons, Dr. Carl W. Frantz and Robert J. Frantz preceded her in death. She left seven grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren.
