Hay, 71, of Rockwood RD 1, died Nov. 18, 1987, in Somerset Community Hospital. Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Rockwood, the son of George and Julia (Kimmell) Hay. Survived by wife, June Bittner Hay; one son, George W. Hay of Irwin; two daughters; Mrs. Susan H. Shellhammer of Kittanning and Sally L. Hay of Somerset; one sister, Florence E. Hemminger of Westfield, N.J.; six grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents. Death terminates a marriage union of 46 years. Attended Rockwood High School, Penn State University, Shippensburg State College, Frostburg State College. Retired school teacher, teaching in the Rockwood and Meyersdale School District. Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. A member of the Somerset Masonic Lodge 358; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter, Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh, Jaffa Temple, Altoona; Somerset American Legion Post 181; VFW Post 185; Historical and Genealogical Society of Somerset County; Laurel Arts; Archeology Society; and PSEA-NEA; AARP; and member of United Church of Christ, Rockwood. Friends will be received in the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, where services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jack Hazlett officiating. Interment, Rockwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, with Francis Brady supervising.
