Hersh, 67, of Cresaptown, Md., died Saturday, March 7, 1987, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born in Meyersdale, on March 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Adam H. and Martha (Sipple) Hersh. A retired 40-year employee of the Celanese Amcelle Plant, he attended First Wesleyan Church and served as president of the Cresaptown Community Council, vice president of the Cresaptown Civic Improvement Association, and was an active member of the Potomac Valley Athletic Association. He recently received an honorary life membership in the Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc., the highest PTA honor, nominated by Cresaptown Elementary School PTA. Surviving are his widow, Shirley A. (Smith) Hersh; two sons, Terry B. Hersh, LaVale, Md.; James H. Hersh, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Darlene D. Aitken, Lancaster, Ohio; Mrs. Shirley R. Stewart, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Kathie L. Smith and Kim A. Hersh, both of Cresaptown, Md.; one brother, William A. Hersh, Rawlings, Md.; one halfbrother, John Hersh, Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Martha I. Werner, Cumberland, Md.; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home where services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. David Paul. Interment, Hillcrest Burial Park.
