Baer of Pocahontas received word Tuesday midnight that his sister, Mrs. Maggie Houston, of Springfield, Mass., died suddenly in that city. No particulars were given. Squire Baer and his brother-in-law, Harvey Miller, a farmer living near Pocahontas, started early Wednesday morning for Springfield to bring her back to her native community for burial. The funeral will be held in the Greenville Lutheran Church at some time to be determined after the body is brought back. Meyersdale Republican, November 17, 1932 ------ MARGARET BAER HOUSTON Margaret B. Houston, daughter of Elisha and Mary Baer, succumbed to an operaton in the Springfield (Mass.) City Hospital, on Tuesday, Nov. 15th. Her early life was spent in Greenville Township, where her parents resided. At the age of 16 she went to Meyersdale, where she was employed, and had since followed her vocation in Pittsburgh, and the last eleven years in Springfield, Mass., where she died. Her brother, A. E. Baer, of Pocahontas, who went to Springfield to have her body brought back to Pennsylvania for burial, was not surprised that her friends were many in Springfield, as well as at her place of birth, for she was loved where ever she was known. She left, especially, a faithful and loving companion in Springfield, who will miss her much, as she and Carrie Skeels were the most devoted friends and companions, living together and sharing each other's burdens. She had also, a very close friend and companion in Pittsburgh who came from that city to pay her last respects. Mrs. Houston was laid to rest beside her father in the cemetery adjoining the church of her faith, the Lutheran church in Greenville Township, of which she became a member fifty years ago. The services in the church were impressive and were conducted by Rev. S. S. Sigler, of Salisbury. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. She was born May 15, 1869, and was aged 63 years, 5 months and 29 days. She leaves to mourn her departure three brothers and three sisters. Her father and mother and one brother and three sisters preceded her in death. The surviving members of the family wish to thank all who assisted during the sickness and death of their beloved sister. Special thanks also go to the following who sang at the funeral: Miss Sue Baer, Lepha Suder, Lenore Collins, Mrs. W. C. Price, Paul Critchfield, W. C. Price, W. H. Baldwin and Carl Leith. The following hymns were beautifully rendered: "Speak to my Heart," "God's Way," and "Abide with Me." Meyersdale Republican, November 24, 1932
