Landefeld, 96, of Somerset, formerly of South Connellsville, died Feb. 2, 2003 in the Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate, Somerset. Born May 24, 1906 in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Harmon W. and Minnie Irene Ridgway Michaels. Also preceded in death by her husband Edward Landefeld in 1982, two sisters, Leona Nelson and Rose Carroll and three brothers, Marshal R., David W, and Gilbert Michaels. Survived by her loving son, E. Kent Landefeld and his wife, Annetta Rose of Somerset, four grandsons, Kent E. Landefeld of Claremore, Okla., Schuyler D. Landefeld of St. Michael, Minn., Clete E. Landefeld of Salt Lake City, Utah and three great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Irene was a resident of Connellsville for most of her life. She was a graduate of the Connellsville High School. Irene was a lifelong member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Connellsville. She served the church in various offices. She had served as president of the trustees, Sunday school teacher of the young people class for a number of years, treasurer of the Win One Class, president of the Womens Missionary Association and on the Conference Branch as statistical secretary for a number of years. Irene also served as the chairman of the building committee, when the new part of the Otterbein U.M. Church was built, which is now the sanctuary. President of Barner, Hood and VanNatta Inc., Insurance and Real Estate Co. since 1936, until it's sale in 1985. She was a member and served as past matron of the Connellsville Eastern Star 247 and was also a member of the Margaret Cavern White Shrine 42. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, the hour of service, in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Connellsville, with Rev. Elmer Reamer officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Otterbein U.M. Church, 201 Lincoln Ave., Connellsville, Pa. 15425, in memory of Irene M. Landefeld. The White Shrine 42 will conduct a service Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
