Landis, 84, of Middle Street, Berlin (Macdonaldton), died March 31, 1999, at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 22, 1915, in Brothersvalley Township, son of William and Emma (Ackerman) Landis. Preceded in death by parents; son, William; three brothers and two sisters. Survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Kathryn Platt, and these children: Evelyn Harmon and Richard, both of Berlin; Henry, Mt. Pleasant; Jeannie Ogline, Clarence and Charles, all of Somerset; Kathryn Harmon and Danny, both of Girard; Ruth Horner, Rockwood; and Mary Butler, Meyersdale; 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Also a sister Ruthmae Frazee of Rockwood. Retired from the former Somerset County Home, Berlin. He was a coal miner for 30 years. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Ralph Landis and Rev. Sherman Berkey.
