Lapina, 63, of Ebensburg RD 1 Box 65, died Aug. 17, 1984, at home. Born Aug. 19, 1920, in Quecreek, son of the late Peter and Josephine (Baroni) Lapina, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, a brother Benjamin, and a sister Mrs. Kathryn Sagel. Survived by widow, the former Mary Ann Stancovich; daughter Donna, wife of Richard Shero of Carrolltown; two step-daughters Deborah Ann and Lisa Ritchey, both of Portage; five granddaughters; and one great-grandson, Jonathon Rezk. Brother of Mrs. John (Yolanda) Legarski, Somerset RD; Mrs. Lloyd (Agnes) Baroni of Stoystown; Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Blucas of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Josephine Manushka of Somerset; Samuel of Quecreek; Peter of Lowell, Ind.; Mrs. Robert (Lillian) Bills of Colorado and Mrs. John (Joanne) Reddick of Shreveport, La.; also numerous nieces and nephews. Former fire boss with Colver-Bakerton Mines and former school board member for John Carroll High School, past member of Carrolltown VFW, American Legion and Fireman's Club. Served as president of the Residents' Council at Laurelcrest Manor, and a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Engineer Combat Battalion. Recipient of Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Cluster. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the John W. Askew Funeral Home, Ebensburg. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Anselm Ober, O.S.B.
