"Chub" LaVigne, 85, of Allegheny Street, Boswell, passed away the morning of Nov. 7, 2001 at his residence. Born Oct. 10, 1916 in Chandlers Valley, Warren County, son of Frank and Helga M. (Eckdahl) LaVigne. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Martha Johnson. Survived by wife of 60 years, the former Alberta M. Henderson; son Larry H., of Somerset; daughter Nancy L. Griffith of Boswell; grandsons Larry J. LaVigne and Spencer L. Griffith; sister Ruth Peterson of Erie; and brother George of Chandlers Valley. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Longtime member of St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell, where he was a former member of the church council. Also a member of Somerset Lodge 358, F&AM, New Castle Scottish Rite and Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. A 1938 graduate of Penn State University. Received his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a vocational agriculture teacher for over 42 years for the former J.B.J. High School and North Star High School where he was also the adviser of a very active F.F.A. club and yearbook business staff. Franklin was a true steward of the soil. He was also very actively involved in the former Jenner Fair Association and the local chamber of commerce. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where a Masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Church. Larry C. Hoover officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Franklin's name may be sent to St. Andrew's Church, Main Street, Boswell, Pa., 15531, or the Regional Hospice at Windber, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, Pa. 15963.
