Chester Long, 88, Beaver Dam Road, Friedens, died Jan. 4, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital, Greensburg. Born March 5, 1916, in Quemahoning Township, son of Calvin and Minnie (Lease) Long. Preceded in death by parents; wife the former Thelma Knepper; daughter Victoria; sisters: Nancy Pfrogner, Alma, Bessie and Verda Long. Survived by these children: Carol, married to Kerry Shoaf, Grapeville; Mary, married to James Manfredo, Pittsburgh; Ginny of Friedens; Joseph, married to the former Eleanor Sheesley, Leesport; Rachel, married to Keith Brant, Acme; and Rebecca of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. A 1933 graduate of Somerset Township High School, and a 1937 graduate of Susquehanna University. Retired Quemahoning Township farmer. Volunteer at the Somerset Food Pantry for many years. Longtime active member of Friedens Lutheran Church. Member and past president of the Stoystown Lions Club, and Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. Former president of the former Forbes High School and Somerset County school boards, and former member of PFA. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where a Lions service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friedens Lutheran Church. The Rev. Edward V. DeVore officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
