Maust, who was for many years the correspondent of the Meyersdale Republican at Springs, and an outstanding citizen of that community, passed away at 2:30 p.m. last Saturday at her home after a lingering illness. She had been sick since 1941. She was born in Milford Township, this county, July 16, 1879, and was aged 66 years, 6 months and 10 days. Her maiden name was Mayme Ann Kimmel, a daughter of the late W. J. and Frances (Will) Kimmel. In her youth she lived on her father's farm and attended the nearby district school and normal school in Meyersdale to prepare herself for teaching. She taught one term in her native township, one term at Fairhope and three terms in Elk Lick Township. It was while she was teaching in Elk Lick that she became acquainted with Norman S. Maust, a sterling young man of the Springs community, whom she married on Christmas Day, 1904. They established their home at Springs where they lived happily together the remainder of her life - more than 41 years. Mrs. Maust became a member of the Christian Church during her girlhood, but after her marriage, she thought it best to unite with the church her husband belonged to, the Mennonite church which predominates in the Springs community. Until her health failed, she was a regular attendant and active and faithful worker in the Springs Mennonite Church, its Sunday school sewing circle and various other activities of the congregation. To Mr. and Mrs. Maust, eight children were born, five sons and three daughters. One son, Clifford, lived only two weeks. Surviving and grown to manhood and womanhood are the seven others, namely: Herbert, Maytown, Pa.; Paul, Montgomery, Ind.; Miss Alma, school teacher, Marshallville, Ohio; Elta, (Mrs. Allen Swartzentruber) Pigeon, Mich.; John, Springs, Pa.; Claude, Grottoes, Va., and Miss Freda, at home with her father. Surviving also besides the children named and their father are 14 grandchildren and four sisters and one brother of Mrs. Maust: Mrs. Nell Bruner, Somerset R.D.; Mrs. Carrie Enfield, Somerset; Mrs. Alice Knepper, Rockwood R.D.; Mrs. Vida Gross, Rockwood, and Paul Kimmel, Tyrone, Pa. Funeral services in the Springs church, Tuesday afternoon, were largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near. The rites of the church were conducted by the local ministers, Walter and Roy Otto. Burial arrangements were in charge of William Winterberg, Grantsville mortician. Interment was made in the Springs cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 31, 1946
