McIlhattan, 51, died suddenly at his home in Greensburg, Monday morning at 4 o'clock, after a heart attack suffered at midnight. Mr. McIlhattan was formerly supervising principal of the Somerset borough schools from 1929 to 1934, when he accepted the position as supervising principal of the Greensburg schools. During his five years in Somerset Mr. McIlhattan introduced a number of new features in the borough schools and always kept in close contact with teachers and parents, and made many friends throughout the county. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Dr. Harold F. Post, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Greensburg where the obsequies were conducted, read the service. Interment in the Knox Cemetery, Clarion County. William H. McIlhattan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. McIlhattan, was born in Clarion County, where he received his early schooling and was graduated from Clarion State Teachers College. After several years spent in the teaching profession he enlisted in the army in 1917, and was sent overseas with the 78th Field Artillery. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. During his stay in France Lieut. McIlhattan was made instructor in field artillery, and later was appointed reconizance officer for his company. He later was attached to the military intelligence department in which capacity he served until return to the United States in 1919. After his honorable discharge he returned to the teaching field as supervising principal at East Brady, and later served in like capacity in Brookville, Somerset and Greensburg. He took a prominent part in the educational program of Western Pennsylvania and in the Pennsylvania School Men's Club. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in June 1941. Mr. McIlhattan was a member of the American Legion and of the Masonic fraternity. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club at Brookville and a member of the Greensburg Rotary Club. Mr. McIlhattan was a life-long member of the Republican party, and worked in the interests of his party, when his position permitted. Surviving are his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Edwin S. McIlhattan of Clarion, his widow, Katherine Stewart McIlhattan, and two children, a daughter, Patricia, and a son, Edwin Stewart McIlhattan. Meyersdale Republican, July 24, 1941
