Born Sept. 26, 1919 in Rockwood. Son of Austin Elmer and Vina Catherine (Brown) McVicker. Preceded in death by parents, son, Jack V. [sic] McVicker Jr., four sisters, Edna Miller, Ruby Henry, Mary Louise McVicker and Eleanor Vallas, and a brother Howard "Pat" McVicker. Survived by children: John E. McVicker of Vienna, Va.; Mrs. K. Robert (Vohnie) Lemon of Somerset, and Mrs. Stan (Vickie) Thurber of Arlington, Va., and a grandson, Dean Yoder. Also two sisters, Mrs. Betty Minor of Rockwood, and Mrs. George (Eva Jean) Haddad of Pittsburgh. Member of Christ United Methodist Church, Rockwood, VFW Post 554, American Legion Post 279 of Rockwood, and DAV Post 127 of Meyersdale. A 1938 graduate of Rockwood High School. A World War II veteran of U.S. Army, 6th Armour [sic] Division European Theatre. Former tax collector for Rockwood Borough for 12 years. Construction inspector and foreman for PennDOT and tax assessor for Somerset County Tax Assessment Office. No viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Christ United Methodist Church, Rockwood, with the Rev. Randall Bain officiating. Private interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.
