  NICKELSON
  
  Mary Ellen Nickelson, 84, of Confluence, died Aug. 6, 2002, at her son's
  home in Confluence.  Born Nov. 12, 1917, in Accident, Md., she was the
  daughter of the late Phillip and Ella (Bowser) Smith.  In addition to her
  parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl M. Nickelson on
  March 11, 1986.  She also is preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Adam,
  Albert, Samuel, Harvey, Clayton, Playford, Earl, Ervin, and Melvin Smith. 
  She is survived by a son, Carl M. Nickelson Jr. and his wife Sandra of
  Confluence and a daughter, Shirley Higdon and her husband.  Dave of
  Friendsville, Md.  She also is survived by five grandchildren, Carl M.
  Nickelson III and his wife Peggy, Michelle and husband Mark Mull, Kathy
  Nickelson, Mary (Nickelson) Helmick, and David Higdon, and also eight
  great-grandchildren, Carl, Amanda, Renee, and Adam Nickelson, Joshua and
  Matthew Mull and Dennis and Cody James Helmick, she also is survived by one
  sister, Rosie Moon and a brother, Paul Smith, both of Accident, Md.  She was
  a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Accident, Md.  Friends will
  be received from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence
  where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wilfred
  Karsten officiating.  Interment at the Jersey Cemetery.
