Penney, 85, Indian Head, formerly of Somerset, passed away Jan. 9, 2001, at her home. Born Nov. 20, 1915 in Morgantown, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert J. and Elva (Witt) Dix. Preceded in death by her first husband, John McNelly and her second husband Milton S. Penney, 2 brothers, Robert Wayne Dix and Blaine Dix and sister Helen Dix. Survived by a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Vivian) Pritts with whom she resided at Indian Head; 3 brothers, E. Dale Dix and wife, Grace of Mt. Pleasant, Thomas R. Dix and wife, Valetta of Jones Mills, and Harold D. Dix and wife, Peggy of Indian Head; a sister-in-law Mary Dix of Latrobe; a number of nieces and nephews and the following stepchildren, Jane Schrock of Lewisburg, William McNelly of Somerset, Dorothy Long in California, Chris Coleman of Somerset, Barbara Shirey of Ligonier and Beverly McFarland of New Wilmington. Graduate of Connellsville High School in 1933 and received a B.S. degree from California State University and later attained a Masters degree in Education from Penn State University. She was a school teacher in the Saltlick Township school at Melcroft. Later she was a special education teacher in the Connellsville School District. Member of thc Delta Kappa Gamma and the Pi Lambs Theta Sororities. She was a partner in the McNelly Bus Co. in Somerset. Member of the Somerset Garden Club, Forbes Road DAR Chapter of Somerset, Indian Head Church of God where she taught the Married Couples Class for many years, W.C.S.C. of the church and held the office of assistant treasurer of Western Pa. Conference Church of God W.C.S.C. where she also served on the Board of Directors of the Church Camp. Friends received from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Route 711, Melcroft, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Dennis Arndt.
