Pifer, 85, of South Edgewood Avenue, Somerset, died Dec. 4, 1977, in Somerset Community Hospital. He was born August 21, 1892, in Somerset, a son of William and Matilda (Darr) Pifer. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marian Hay; two brothers; two sisters; and two sons, George and Clarence. He is survived by these children: Rowena, wife of Glenn M. Pyle, Somerset; Loretta, wife of Alfred Wilmoth, Fredericksburg, Va.; and a son, D. Lester E., Professor at Kentucky Christian College, Grayson, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Christian Church in Somerset; Somerset Volunteer Fire Dept.; Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association; Somerset FOE 1801; Veteran of WWI; and a member of Company C. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Monday m the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul P. Weber officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. Somerset Volunteer Fire Dept. will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m Tuesday in the funeral home. Daily American, December 5, 1977 [P0560]
