Richey, a native of Independence, Washington County, Pa., died suddenly, Nov. 15, 1940, at 11:30 o'clock p.m., at his home, the Methodist Episcopal parsonage at Addison, following a heart attack. He was 68 years, 11 months and 29 days old, dying within a half hour of the 69th anniversary of his birth. Rev. Richey was pastor of Addison, Harnedsville and Somerfield and this was his third year in this charge. Last Sunday, Nov. 10, he delivered three sermons. Rev. Richey was a son of the late David and Margaret (Mitchell) Richey, born in Independence, Nov. 15, 1871, where he spent his boyhood and school days and taught school for a number of years. Later he attended Scio College at Scio, Ohio, and the Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, N.J. For 33 years he had been a member of the Pittsburgh Conference and had filled charges at Carmichael, Boutleyville, McDonald, Frederick, Follansbee, W.Va., and the Franklin Community Church near Independence. Rev. Richey was held in high esteem in all of the communities where he served as pastor and he made many friends who loved him for his kind, jovial disposition. Rev. Richey was married to Miss Mary Hays, of near Collier, W.Va., who survives with two daughters and one son, Mrs. C. K. Matthews of Waynesburg, Mrs. Glen Holmes of Houston, and John Leonard Richey of Holliday's Cove, W.Va. One son, George William, died at the age of 7 1/2 years. Four grandchildren survive and also two brothers and one sister, Frank Richey of Collier, W.Va., and David L. Richey of Denison, Ohio, and Mrs. Gertrude Hawley of Wellsburg. Funeral services were held on Sunday morning, Nov. 17, at 10:30 o'clock at the Addison Methodist Episcopal Church by Rev. Hicks and Rev. C. T. Bland of this community, Rev. John O. Martin and Rev. James Shannon, both of Confluence, and Rev. John Rodahaver of Harnedsville. Funeral services were held at Independence followed by interment in the Independence cemetery.
