Shaffer, 88, Boswell RD 1, died Jan. 3, 1983, at home of granddaughter, Shirley Verna. Born Jan. 11, 1894, in Jenner Township, Somerset County, daughter of Levi J. and Rebecca (Griffith) Gindlesperger. Preceded in death by parents, two half-brothers, four brothers and five sisters. Survived by husband, Homer S.; and daughter, Irene, widow of Chester Thomas; grandchildren: Mrs. Shirley Verna and Jack Thomas, all of Hollsopple RD 2; great-grandchildren: Beth (Verna) Wallace and Scott Verna and Rick and Bryan Thomas. Sister of Mrs. Edith Yoder, Hollsopple RD 2. Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer celebrated 67th wedding anniversary Dec. 24, 1982. Longtime member of Jennerstown United Methodist Church, missionary circle of the church. Taught Sunday school for many years and was head of the church sewing group. Also a long-time member of 7th Society of Farm Women, who will have a service 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends received from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell. Body will be removed to Jennerstown United Methodist Church for viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Donald Rudat. Interment, Thomas Mennonite Cemetery.
