Shaffer, 69, of Jenners, died Nov. 20, 1974, in Windber Hospital. Born July 14, 1905, in Somerset County, he was a son of Henry and Isabel (Geisel) Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. Surviving are his wife, the former Pearl Emert; and these children: Merle, married to the former Pearl Clark; and Ronald, married to the former Rosella Clark, both of Carmichaels; Janet, wife of Homer Gnagey, Meyersdale; Mary E., wife of Clarence Hoffman, and Arlene, wife of Rodger DeArmitt, both of Somerset; Nancy, wife of Richard Vanscoy Jr., of Laurel, Md., also 16 grandchildren and a brother, Ernest Shaffer of Quecreek. He was a retired coalminer for J & L Steel Company Mine in Bobtown; a member of Jenners Local 1742 UMWA, Jenners Rod and Gun Club and the Church of the Nazarene. Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon in Joseph G. Hoffman Funeral Home, Boswell, with Rev. Donald Chamberlain officiating. Interment in Edie Cemetery.
