Shonko Sr., 71, Berlin RD 4, died April 12, 1984, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born May 22, 1912, in Macdonaldton, a son of John and Anna (Rusnaka) Shonko. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Daroyl Shonko and a brother, Michael. He is survived by his wife, the former June Hoyle, and these children: Arthur E., Syracuse, N.Y.; Mrs. Terry (Dorma) Raupach, and John J. Jr., both of Berlin; and Robert P., Berlin RD 4; also six grandchildren. He was a brother of George and Pete Chonko, both of Michigan, Mrs. Elijah (Anna) Lantz, Painesville, Ohio; Joseph, Steven, Andrew, Mrs. Mary Nider, Mrs. Helen Groff and Susie Chonko, all of Berlin RD 3. He was a retired coal miner, a member of St. Gregory's Church, Macdonaldton, and UMWA Local 1875. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gregory's Church, the Rev. Daniel O'Neill officiating. Interment, St. Gregory's Cemetery.
