Showalter, 78, of Ord Street, Salisbury, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Somerset Hospital. Born Sept. 17, 1926, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Mabel (Beynon) Showalter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Jean (Hollada) Showalter, Aug. 19, 1997. Mr. Showalter was a Courier for National Bank of Western Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was the recipient of the Pacific and American Theatre Ribbons, Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a charter member of Salisbury VFW and member of the DAV. Mr. Showalter was a former bus driver, auctioneer, and figure caller for the Maple Swingers Square Dance Club. He was a member of the Main Street Brethren Church, Meyersdale. Surviving are one son, David S. Showalter and wife Debbie, Lusby, Maryland; his godson, Shawn Troutman, Hyndman, Pennsylvania; one brother, Fred Showalter, Salisbury; six sisters, Carol Sue Helman, Burlington, WV, Jean Bowers and Hazel Garlitz, both of Salisbury, Felicia Gross, North Ridgeville, Ohio, Harriet Higgins, Canton, Ohio and Linda Schaeffer, Glenwood, Maryland. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason Dixon Highway, Salisbury, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 am with the Rev. Robert Stahl officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Glen Cemetery, Fort Hill. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Salisbury VFW.
