Shumaker Jr., 23, Somerset RD 5, died April 2, 1994, in an accident near Haiti. He was born March 10, 1971, in Somerset, son of Larry L. and Mayme (Stayrook) Shumaker. Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, E3 Elizabeth Shumaker, Medical Center Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md.; also an uncle, Walter Stayrook, Jr., Van Nuys, Calif. and paternal grandparents, Clyde and Betty (King) Shumaker of Somerset RD 5. A 1989 graduate of Somerset Area High School. Member of National Rifle Association, Laurel Ridge Sportsman's and life member of Bass Sportsmen's. When he was stationed in Staten Island, N.Y., he served as an auxiliary policemen in New York City. He served aboard the USS Normandy. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Somerset Alliance Church, the Rev. Dr. M.E. Vance officiating. Interment, Blough Cemetery. Body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to the Somerset Alliance Church. Daily American, April 7, 1994 [S1657]
