(Scottie) Smith, 61, of Laurel, Md., formerly of Somerset, died March 1, 1988, in Greater Laurel Beltsville Hospital. Born Feb. 23, 1927, in Somerset County, son of the late Fred J. and Bessie L. (Carr) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; one son, Fred; and one brother, Brady. Survived by one daughter, Brenda Sue, Wisconsin; and son, Robert L., Erie. Also a friend and companion of 18 years, Pearl Gosnell. Survived by these brothers and sisters: Robert L. Smith, Chardon, Ohio, Mrs. Jason (Goldie) Charlton, Berlin; Mrs. Edward (Mary) Sager, Somerset; Mrs. William (Edith) Dove, Royersford, Pa.; Mrs. Mike (Thelma) Dick, Keyser, W.Va.; and Mrs. James (Hazel) Canavan, Somerset RD 2. Veteran of World War II. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Robert H.
