SMITH Ethel Catherine Smith, 88, of RD 2, Hancock, Md., formerly of St. Mary's Avenue, died June 2, 1988, in the Extended Care Unit at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Born Dec. 23, 1899, in New Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Emma (Kegg) Speicher. Her husband, Charles L. Smith, died in 1965. She was a registered nurse, was a graduate of the Conemaugh Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown. She was a retired private duty nurse and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. Smith, Cumberland, Md.; and Dean L. Smith, Hancock, Md.; one brother, Howard F. Speicher, Meyersdale; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received in the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Virginia Avenue, where services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating. Interment, Hillcrest Burial Park.
